GIS Mapping
Understanding and accounting for local assets and resources and executing government policy are key issues of local government.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a computer based technology used to compile data, information and geographic features into maps and reports that local government official's use in decision making, managing and planning for the City. This provides a systematic way to collect and analyze public land related data.

GIS allows efficient decision making that is backed by reliable and verifiable information.

GIS Mapping Services Can Include:

Thematic Mapping:
Preparing maps and queries for all City departments by utilizing in-house data or data from several outside agencies.


Database Management:
Data used to create all maps is constantly changing. Maintaining this data in a database environment is critical to providing the most current and accurate information available.
Economic Development:
GIS data and maps are used to identify and analyze features important to the City's growth. Items such as Land Analysis, Census Trends, Development Plans, Forecast and Scenarios are typical for assisting the City departments in an efficient decision making process.

Remote Sensing & Image Analysis:
Collecting images or other forms of data about an object, for processing and analysis, from measurements made by satellite images and orthophotography.

Archiving:
The GIS Division archives out-dated or expired data and maps for future reference and to create a historical timeline of the City's growth.
